Welcome

On behalf of the staff and governors may I welcome you and your family to our school website.

St Matthew's C of E Primary and Nursery is located in Derriford, Plymouth. We have the benefit of being a modern site that opened its doors in 2016.  In that time it has grown rapidly from 75 pupils at the time of opening to over 450 pupils in 2023.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of this forward-thinking church school with a strong Christian vision and values as well as a passion and drive to ensure that our pupils receive the very best education in order to ensure they can leave us as successful, aspirational, responsible, curious and spiritual citizens. Children are encouraged and given opportunities to 'Let their Light Shine' by achieving their full potential both academically and personally.  We strive to ensure all children attain the very highest standards across the curriculum whilst experiencing a wide range of other types of learning.

Our school lies at the heart of the growing community and offers opportunities and activities for adults and children out of school hours. Our early closure on a Friday at 1 pm enables us to offer a wealth of extracurricular opportunities to our children. Our breakfast club and after school care clubs enable us to offer extended care from 7.30 am to 5.45 pm.

We value parent's involvement with a child's education, so offer an open door approach and will discuss any points of interest or concern parents may wish to share with us.  This website aims to improve communication and information sharing with parents.

St Matthew’s is a Church of England, primary academy and is part of the growing family of schools from across Plymouth, Torbay and Devon which make up St Christopher's Multi Academy Trust. More information on our trust can be found by clicking here.

If you are looking here with a view to sending your child to our school we welcome and encourage you to visit the school to fully appreciate the quality of education and care we offer.

With thanks

Mr Chris Conners
Headteacher
