Welcome

On behalf of the school team and governors, I am delighted to welcome you to St Matthew’s C of E Primary and Nursery School.

Located in Derriford, Plymouth, St Matthew’s sits at the heart of a growing and diverse community. Since opening in 2016, the school has developed into a thriving and ambitious place of learning, and we continue to build on this as we move into the next phase of our journey.

As a Church of England school, our vision, “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16), underpins all that we do. We are committed to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to flourish. Our aim is that pupils leave us as confident, respectful and aspirational learners, equipped with the knowledge, skills and character they need for the next stage of their education.

We have high expectations for all pupils and are focused on providing a high-quality, well-sequenced curriculum that enables children to achieve well across all subjects. Alongside this, we place great importance on personal development, offering a range of wider opportunities, including our Friday afternoon enrichment programme, which allows pupils to explore new interests and develop important life skills.

Strong relationships are at the heart of our school. We work closely with parents and carers and value open communication, recognising the vital role families play in supporting children’s success. Our school community is built on mutual respect, kindness and a shared commitment to doing the very best for every child.

St Matthew’s is part of St Christopher's Multi Academy Trust, and we benefit from working collaboratively with other schools across Plymouth, Torbay and Devon to continually strengthen our provision.
